This was one of the few weeks on the Gleanings calendar that is left intentionally empty of most of our usual activities. There were no teams, & we produced no food. A number of our staff enjoyed a few extra days off. The rest of us use the time to prepare for the season ahead. The base gets transformed from summer mode to fall readiness.
As a community, we took time each day to soak in God’s word. We read portions of scripture aloud, encouraging our faith. My favorite section that ministered to me personally was Ephesians 3:14-19 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family[c] in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. – I want to be filled with the fullness of God!
We sent a sea container filled with food and quilts on it’s way to Israel. Some friends from Israel Food Outreach came, along with Jim Stine (former Gleanings staff) to send the container off with our blessings. They plan to do a lot of ministry to shut-in Holocaust Survivors. Also, we tackled a number of clean up and improvement projects around campus this week. So even though this was “a quiet week”, God spoke to us and we got a lot done! Here are some pictures from the week. Enjoy!
